The common snapping turtle (Chelydra serpentina) is a large freshwater turtle of the family Chelydridae. Its natural range extends from southeastern Canada, southwest to the edge of the Rocky Mountains, as far east as Nova Scotia and Florida and as far southwest as northeastern Mexico.

Common snappers are noted for their belligerent disposition when out of the water, their powerful beak-like jaws, and their highly mobile head and neck (hence the specific name "serpentina", meaning "snake-like"). In some areas they are hunted very heavily for their meat, a popular ingredient in turtle soup. Tartu town hall square

I just imagine that I am in Estonia.
Though there is no snow either.

The central Tartu Town Hall Square is surrounded by buildings built in the classical style. Since 1998 the square is decorated by the “Kissing Students” fountain. Throughout centuries the centre of town activity has been Town Hall Square, the history of which goes back to ancient times. At that time the market place was the square lying between the fortress on Toome Hill and the harbour on the banks of the Emajõgi River. This tradition persisted for centuries. During the midieval period the Town Hall was built here. The present building is the third one in the same place.

Compared with the long history of Tartu, the buildings are relatively young: it is rare to find buildings originating from earlier than the last quarter of the 18th century. This is due to the many wars and fires which have passed over the town. During the Great Fire of 1775, nearly the entire town centre burned to the ground. Just after that fire the town began to take on the appearance that it displays today, and the Town Hall building originates from that time. (Source Visit Tartu)

No news from Barcelona long time. Nobody I know is there. The seed of Canada was planted there. What an amazing city, atmosphere and architecture.
This building is MACBA, check out the title of the post or read the sign from the photo. It is quite new building, opened in 1995. Never hav been inside, but what I know the place, especially the yard of it is loved by skateboarders because of the nice options for skating and it is also meeting for weed-smokers. At night you can get high just walking there.

This is a really interesting and weird movie full of chasing, dreaming and unreal moments. Also it portrays Paris quite nicely and if you have been there it seems very familiar. I chose this portrait of Julet Berto who was playing great role of Celine. I found her coolness and arrogance in the beginning of the movie very amusing. How could she be so cold?!? Julie has unfortunately left this world on 1990 due to a cancer.

Turkey Vulture

One mirrors story. Once it was a new tire what came out from a dirty tire factory. Then it was a nice wheel together with three others under a powerful tractor. After few years, this tire got tired and it was abandoned and left behind the barn in a countryside, as long a woman decided to bring it back to live. She knew an artist who is working with tires. So she took this tire over to Carolyn Butts' place who gave this tire a new life, combining it with another tire and adding a mirror. The tire was happy to be presented in a wonderful exhibition. This mirror is waiting to become a part of somebody's home. It can be bought from here.

Groundhog family

During my one month in the woods of Quebec, I got to know a family of groundhogs, who were living under the log pile by my trailer. Day first I thought that there is one just by accident, but every time, especially in the mornings, when I was quiet for a long time and I stepped outside and started sneaking towards the log pile, I could see several fur balls doing their things around it. They were very cute and very tiny and quite bold I must say. During the course of time I got to take lots of photos about them, now I am presenting the best of. Usually they are our on their own, or there was just one bolder one who stayed out longer and allowed me to sneak closer with my telephoto lens. Thanks Canon for it. On the last photo you can see four babies, there were five of them and add the mother, who you can see on the second and on the fifth photo squealing for letting the babies know that there is a stranger (me) outside, so take a hike boys and girls. Their teeth can crack wood like a piece of cake. Sometimes I spent just ten minutes looking face to face with one of these cute balls, so that my feet died....Power of animals is so deep. Hope that seeing these photos makes you feel grand emotions.

I have always liked the idea of possibility to take photos of a lightning. It almost seems like an impossible task. Well, I managed to capture few bursts on this August. I think this is the best shot. Like always in photography, the right moment is the most important thing....and of course having a camera there when this something happens. All those things were taken care of, but I really needed a tripod, but on that dark field there were only some hundred year old fences, onto what I could lean camera and myself, but they obviously worked out just fine. I took approximately twenty 30 second exposures, few are good enough to share, but this double lightning is excellent IMHO.

Eastern Painted Turtle

The painted turtle (Chrysemys picta) is the most widespread native turtle of North America. It lives in slow-moving fresh waters, from southern Canada to Louisiana and northern Mexico, and from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Within much of its range, it is the most numerous turtle. The turtle's top shell is smooth and oval without a keel (ridge) on the top. Its skin is olive to black with red, orange, or yellow stripes on its extremities. The subspecies can be distinguished by their shells: the eastern has straight-aligned top shell segments; the midland has a large gray mark on the bottom shell; the southern has a red line on the top shell; the western has a red pattern on the bottom shell.

The turtle eats aquatic vegetation, algae, and small water creatures including insects, crustaceans, and fish. Although they are frequently consumed as eggs or hatchlings by rodents, canines, and snakes, the adult turtles' hard shells protect them from most predators except alligators and raccoons. Reliant on warmth from its surroundings, the painted turtle is active only during the day when it basks for hours on logs or rocks. During winter, the turtle hibernates, usually in the muddy bottoms of waterways. The turtles mate in spring and autumn; between late spring and mid-summer females dig nests on land and lay their eggs. Hatched turtles grow until sexual maturity: 2–9 years for males, 6–16 for females. Adults in the wild can live for more than 55 years.

In the traditional tales of Algonquian tribes, the colorful turtle played the part of a trickster. In modern times, the painted turtle has become the United States' second most popular pet turtle, although trapping is increasingly restricted. Habitat loss and road killings have reduced the turtle's population, but its ability to live in human-disturbed settings has helped it remain the most abundant turtle in North America. Only in Oregon and British Columbia is its range in danger of eroding. Four U.S. states have named the painted turtle their official reptile.

I think I slightly revealed the prettiest sunset I have ever experienced. Why was that? Because the landscape was offering great variety of places where fog could form beautiful forms. Whether Poaceae or farm houses, roads, buggies (to come), everything looks much different under the awakening sunbeams and mysterious fog.

In Canada the summer is longer, or my mind is just resists to let the summer go.
Well, the days are much warmer than back at home. Summer seems stretched.

I think for me 28th of September, 1994 is a date I'll never forget, as American's won't 11th of September, 2001. On 1994 a ship called "Estonia" sank in the middle of the night between Estonia and Sweden. Cold sea took lives of 852 people.
Water has always have a special meaning for me and thinking of those poor people who drowned into a ice cold water made me feel really bad and still does. I was 14 when I heard the news, and started to get ready to go to school, as I switched on radio and realized something terrible like that has happened. I couldn't believe it. After the terrible news they played Sophie B. Hawkins' "Right beside you" and if you have seen its video then you know how connected the music and the accident really are.

Taking a moment to think of those Estonians, Swedes, Finns and other nationalities.

Toronto is full of these. Both, windows and skyscrapers.
Who could count the lives behind the windows, whether exposed or hidden.
Such buildings are break-through in architecture.

That is one of the oldest photographs in my folder of blog photographs - 16th of December 2008. Wow! So it cried: "Post me, post me!!!".
Here you go a girl from Estonia, from the country of the prettiest girls. Which I doubt, but the beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
